Transdermal Drug Screening and Product Development

You may need to screen multiple compounds for skin penetration, or you may already have selected your lead compound and need help in developing transdermal formulation prototypes. We can help you. You may plan to deliver your drug using tradition passive methods (e.g. adhesive patches, gels and creams), or one of the newer, active delivery systems (e.g. iontophoresis, electroporation, sonophoresis, or thermal energy). Either way, you can benefit from our expertise in TD product screening and development.

Screening Multiple Compounds for Skin Penetration

If you need to select one NCE among many, our scientists, who have many years of experience with topical drug transport, will review the properties of your compounds and help in product selection. We study skin penetration in our in vitro drug transport laboratory where we use only fresh human skin from elective surgery. This is important because it avoids all the problems and variability that can occur if you use cadaver skin.

Deliver Your Drug in a Topical Formulation

Once your NCE is selected, if you need a topical formulation we will develop several prototypes to enhance penetration, then evaluate them for penetration and stability. We will screen for penetration and optimize using our in-vitro drug transport laboratory. Based on physical/chemical stability and penetration, we will help you select one (and a backup) for further development.

Clinical Supplies for Your Topical Formulation

The formulation scientist who developed your product will supervise manufacture of your clinical supplies (non-clinical, phase 1 and phase 2) in our GMP suites. This avoids any formulation scale-up problems. Then we label, package and distribute to your clinical sites worldwide. We have relationships with qualified contract commercial manufacturers, and we will support technology transfer to the facility of your choice.
